11 Warning Signs of Dehydration
The human body is a complex machine which needs regular maintenance in order to work. Machines may require oil to work, but our bodied need water. Water is absolutely essential for our health and lack of it can cause quite a lot of problems.
Dehydration is not a simple problem – it has dangerous side-effects that can destroy your health. Studies have shown that even dangerous diseases can be resolved by increasing your water intake as the liquid is highly important for the way our body works. However, we’re definitely not drinking enough water nowadays, and it may be the reason why we’re so sick. Even worse, 25% of all children are not including enough water in their fluid intake, which is definitely the reason for a variety of ailments.
Experts say that almost all health problems start with dehydration. If you’re feeling unwell and aren’t quite sure what the problem is, it may actually be insufficient water intake. Here are 11 warning signs of dehydration:
Bad breath can be caused by a variety of factors including insufficient water intake. If you’re brushing and flossing and it doesn’t help, dehydration might be the issue.
When the body lacks water, it tries to use the reserves for vital functions, so the skin gets almost none of it. This can make it dry and looking unpleasant, and it can be resolved by drinking more water during the day.
Muscle cramps are one of the main symptoms of dehydration. The more you exercise, the hotter the muscles become, and as they work harder, they will need more liquids to continue. Lack of water in the cells will definitely make them cramps, as can low electrolyte, sodium and potassium levels.
Fever and chills
Fever and chills occur as a result of severe dehydration – in this case, you may need more than water to fix the problem.
If you’re often cravings foods during the day or wake up in the middle of the night with an insatiable hunger, you may be dehydrated. Simply drink a glass of water instead to resolve the cravings and get back to sleep.
Our brain sits in fluid which prevents it from hitting the skull. In cases of dehydration, this fluid sac can get depleted, resulting in headaches and a host of other problems as well.
Dark yellow urine
If your urine has a dark yellow (almost amber) color, you are severely dehydrated. In this case, you need a glass of water (or two!) immediately!
Back and joint pain
Any kind of body ache may be a sign of dehydration. If you’re constantly suffering from back and joint pain, you might be drinking insufficient amounts of water. Have in mind that the cartilage consists of 80% of water, which means that it needs the fluid to properly function.
High blood pressure
Dehydration is one of the main causes of hypertension (high blood pressure). When there’s lack of water in the body, the blood gets thicker, resulting in harder passage through the veins an increased blood pressure.
High cholesterol levels
Once there’s no water in the body, your cholesterol levels will rise as there’s no fluid replacement for sodium and other substances.
Severe dehydration will “shrink” your brain and prevent you from thinking clearly.
