The seafood can be a great source of protein and vitamins. However, there’s one fish about which health experts are warning the consumers to stay far away from – that is tilapia fish.

 

Tilapia is the most popular farmed fish across the US, because its affordability. But not only is it just about emptiness of all nutrients you’d expect from the seafood – it’s also really bad for your health. So, how bad? ‘Worse than bacon’ bad.

 

Here are 4 reasons about what makes tilapia so awful.

 

Reason #1 – Tilapia Contains A Small Number Of Nutrients

 

The Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s researchers released a report about the omega-3 fatty acid content in the popular fish. Tilapia scored far lower than most of the other fish that were on the list.

 

Omega-3 fatty acids give the fish most of their benefits, including the Alzheimer’s risk reduction.

 

The tilapia fish contains lots of omega-6 fatty acids, and they are terrible for you. The quantity of omega-6 in the tilapia gives a one serving of the fish higher inflammatory potential than one hamburger or bacon.

Reason #2 – Most Tilapia Fish Is Farmed

 

Tilapia is the second most commonly farmed fish in the world. This is mostly as a result of the fish’s hardiness; it can eat almost anything.

 

This is just great for the fish farmers. It means they don’t have to spend a lot of money to buy fish food as they would if they are raising salmon. Instead, lots of of them feed the fish with chicken and pig poop.

 

So, is your stomach turning yet?

 

Of course, the farmed tilapia also retains all the other nasty parts of the fish farming. The fish are stuffed with antibiotics, overcrowded and genetically modified so as to grow faster.

 

Reason #3 – Tilapia Could Cause Alzheimer’s Disease

 

One of the omega-6 fatty acids in this fish goes by the name of arachidonic acid. That is a compound that significantly increases the type of inflammatory damage that precedes Alzheimer’s disease.

 

So when you’re eating some healthy fish such as mackerel, sardines or halibut, they would reduce your risk of developing Alzheimer’s, but this fish actually increases it.

 

Reason #4 – Tilapia May Cause Cancer

 

Tilapia fish, being one of the most commonly farmed fish, is able to carry up to 10 times the amount of carcinogens as other the fish.

 

You could trace this right back to what the fish farmers feed tilapia fish –pesticides, poop and industrial-grade chemicals. The toxic chemical researchers in the fish have found the chemical dioxin, which is connected to the development and the progression of cancer. What’s even more, your body doesn’t actually flush out the dioxin for a whopping 7-11 years. It has got lots of time to do the damage.
