Although we generally use pills as a way of fighting any health problem, there are many natural alternatives which work far better and without the adverse side-effects of pills. Essential oils are one of those remedies, with even science confirming their incredible effects.
Different essential oils have different properties, but all of them are great for your health. Some essential oils have antibacterial and antiseptic properties, while others can reduce inflammation and treat pain. One of the most complete and most powerful oils is the oregano essential oil. It is derived from the oregano herb and is full of essential nutrients and antioxidants which can certainly improve your overall health.
One of the main health benefits of the oregano oil is its ability to reinforce the immune system. There are many studies which show that the oil can fight almost any type of germs – one study from the Department of Agriculture showed that the oil is so powerful it can effectively fight salmonella, one of the most vicious bacteria. Other studies have also confirmed the oil’s powerful antibacterial and antiseptic properties, and many experts recommend using it on minor cuts and wounds in order to prevent infections.
Furthermore, the oil can defeat free radicals in the body which are often the main cause of cancer. According to one study, we need about 600 mg. of oregano oil to completely eradicate free radicals from our body. Besides the antibacterial properties, the oil can also improve your mood. Studies have shown that it has a calming effect on the central nervous system, with many people using oregano oil in aromatherapy as a way of reducing stress.
And the benefits of the oil don’t stop there. Many experts recommend oregano oil as a natural way of fighting fungal infections on the feet such as athlete’s foot. If you’re suffering from it, just put a few drops of the oil in a bowl of water and soak your feet in for 15 minutes. Rinse your feet with water afterwards and repeat the process every day for best results.
As we said, the oregano oil is a powerful antibacterial agent. It can fight the bacteria responsible for tooth decay and prevent infections in your mouth. Mix a bit of oregano oil with some coconut oil, then swish the solution in your mouth for a few minutes to keep your oral health in check.
The incredible oregano oil is also great for colds and sinus infections. To relieve any respiratory problem, you should put a few drops of the oil in a bowl of steaming water, then inhale the steam. This will open up your airways and fight the bacteria in them, effectively preventing infections.
For best results, you should use your own oregano oil prepared at home. The process is easier than you think and won’t take much of your time. Here’s what you need to do:
Crushed oregano leaves
Olive, grapeseed or almond oil
A sanitized jar with a lid
Pour some water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil, then take it off the heat and put the oil and oregano leaves in the jar, close it and put it in the hot water. This will heat up the oil in the jar and make the oregano leaves release their volatile oils. Once the mixture is hot, take it out of the water and leave the jar in a sunny spot for about 2 weeks. Strain it through a gauze afterwards, then store the oil in a dark and cool place.
